Food Festival

Most of Room 4 came to the Food Festival. It was crowded, busy and hot. There was beautiful Indian and Pasifika dancing and the boys dance was awesome. Kapahaka were fabulous too. We ate all kinds of food - Cambonian, Chinese, Hungarian, Pasifika, Maori, Somalian, Indian and Kiwi. It was all delicious!

Our Buddy, Ruby

It was Buddy Day on Friday.  Room 4 made a Buddy called Ruby. We talked about how we all need to help keep children safe, at school and at home.
We had to design our buddy and then write a little book about her. Here is Ruby and her story.

My name is Ruby. I am 5 years old. I am in Room 4 at Hamilton East School. I have two teachers. In the morning it is Whaea Sheryl. After 11.30am it is Whaea Kat. I love learning. There is lots of exciting things to do at my school.

On Friday we go to the hall for Positive Assembly. We sing songs, dance and celebrate the great learners at our school.

We are getting ready to sing the Gummy Bears Song.

I see my other friends too. Minnie is in Anna's class (Room 5) and Buddy is in Room 3 with Miss Suze.

Here I am lining up with my friends to go with our Buddy class (Room 11) to Dawson Street to practice our athletics. It's great fun having a Buddy class. The big kids and their teacher, Whaea Tash, read us books, teach us new songs and dances and look after us.

Here I am waiting my turn to practice my jumping.

My favourite place to play is the Rainbow Playground. I like to play there with my friends. I love going on the slide. It's so much fun!

I like to play at the water trough with my friends too.

My friends like to read me stories and play with the babies.

All of the children in Kowhai team eat lunch together. I have yummy sandwiches to eat!

Which one do you think is the scariest?

Growing Pumpkins!

Firstly we dug the ground.
Then we rolled a tyre onto our hole.
We got buckets full of compost and tipped them into the tyre.
We also added a bucket of sheep poo
to make the pumpkin grow big.
We mixed it all together and planted our pumpkin.
We remembered to water our pumpkin plant.
Now we need to give it a drink every day.

Kowhai

We went to look at the Kowhai tree flowering in our school.
We drew Kowhai flowers in Kidpix.
Aren't they beautiful!

Visiting Mystery Creek

We travelled on the school bus to Mystery Creek.
Allan showed us lots of old things like the washing machine, the old camera, an old iron, an old dentists chair and old clothes that we could try on.

Earl showed us old tractors, old carriages that horses had to pull and a frog! Inside he showed us how they used to make butter. Then we visited the old village and saw the old school room, the jail, the old hospital, the church the petrol station and the blacksmiths who used to make shoes for the horses.
Our favourite things were the school, the jail, the hospital, the cow, the petrol station, the blacksmiths, the plane and finding the letters.

We learned how to make butter and that milk comes from cows.

We learned it is dark and spooky in the jail and that the dental nurse's drill used to hurt more than it does today.

Hopscotch

We have been learning to play hopscotch. You have to be good at throwing, jumping and counting.
Hopscotch is a very old game. Our teachers, our mums and dads and even our grandparents played hopscotch when they were little.

Les Mills School of Fitness

Each Monday, Laurelle from Les Mills School of Fitness, comes to Hamilton East School to teach us exercises to help keep us fit and healthy.
We are lucky as we get to do fitness with Room 3 as well.
We get to move to the music and sometimes we pretend we are animals.

Dress Up Day

We were so excited to get dressed up for VSA Pacific dress up day.
Whaea Kat and Mrs McLean thought that we all looked gorgeous.
