Cross Country 2012

It was a beautiful fine day for cross country. The ground was still quite soggy though so we had to sit on the tarpaulins before we had to run.

Here are the Year 1 children waiting to start crosscountry.

The year 1 boys are watching the girls run and waiting for their turn to run.

The girls are all lined up ready to run.

"Stretch everybody!"
And bend and stretch!

It is a long way around Putkitiki!
We were all very thirsty after cross country so we all had a BIG drink.

Jelly Worms

Last term we were learning about how things changes and we made jelly.
This term Whaea Kat found a recipe to make jelly worms. Some of us were worried that they might be like real worms.

We are waiting to see if the jelly worms have worked.

First you make the jelly.
Then you bundle together straws and hold them together with rubber bands.

Straws in a glass full of jelly.
What will happen when the straws get lifted out of the jelly?

The straws are still stuck together with the jelly.

Tip the jelly in the straws and set in the fridge.
When the jelly is set undo the rubber bands.
Oh no! the jelly has stuck the straws together.
Loosen the jelly worms with warm water.
Eat the jelly worms.

The first jelly worm.

More jelly worms!

No time to get all the worms out of the straws using the warm water.

We thought we would like to try this again with different coloured jellies.

More changes ...

Akomanga Rima tamariki (Room 5 children) are continuing to learn about change this term. There has been many changes since the start of the term.
One big change is that the tamariki have a new teacher, Whaea Kat.
She has brought some different things into the class.

The reading tents are a great space to concentrate and practice our reading either by ourselves or with a friend.
Reading together is lots of fun.

One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish. We love Dr Suess books.

We also have a small house with a stove, babies in strollers and dress ups.
