Our Garden

All of our class went down to the gardens with Sarah.
We looked at what was in our garden.
There was some potatoes that another group of children had grown.

"Hmmmmm...
what should we grow in our garden?"

Sarah suggested that we grow some basil and lettuces.
We were thinking that if our lettuces grew in time we could have a lettuce salad for lunch one day.

Sarah asked us if we knew how long it took for a lettuce to grow from a seed. We gave a lot of different answers.
Sarah then told us it takes about 7 to 14 days.

We got to sprinkle the seeds on the soil.

To help our seeds grow we had to water them.
The watering can was quite heavy.

We put in ice block sticks with lettuce and basil on them to remind us what we had planted and where it is too.

Not many of our swan plants had germinated.
Sarah said that the pots we had put seeds in were environmentally friendly and we could rip them up and put them in our garden to help the plants grow.

Windy Apple Day

We are learning about healthy snacks to eat. We know that fruit is healthy.
Sometimes we have apples in our lunch
and they are too big to eat.
Or if the apples are cut up they go brown.

Whaea Kat showed us a new way that we could have our apples.

She had a machine that cores, cuts and peels (if you don't like skin) your apple. She calls it a windy apple.

"Oh I pulled it too far".

"Yummy!"

"This one looks like a C".

"This one is an O".

Wind and twist, wind and twist.

It looks like a slinky.
We loved eating our apples like this!

We showed Whaea Tash and her class how the apple machine worked. They thought it was cool too! So now they have one too.

Now on Wednesdays we can bring an apple to school and we can have a windy apple at lunchtime.

On the bus

We have been talking about getting 'Out and About' in Hamilton/Kirikiriroa.
But we have a big problem. How to do we get to our destination?
Do we walk, or bike, or scooter, or go in a car, or a taxi or a bus?

We thought we should have a look at our school bus to see if it might be the best way to get us safely to and from our destination.

The bus has really big wheels!

It has an emergency door, if we need to get out fast.
Look at the Hamilton East kids.
Wow! The bus is BIG!
We are lining up ready to get on the bus.

Where is the bus driver?
The bus driver says,"move on back."
