The Power Show

They were teaching us to switch off all the switches so that we can save money by not using as much power.
We wrote some stories with Mrs D.

Yesterday we went to a show with Mr Power and Volt in it.  There was a boy in love.  He wanted to get some red roses.  Mr Power tricked the boy.

Operetta Week

It is Operetta Week!
Here we are performing on the
stage. You feel shy when you go
on the stage. You have to do the actions and sing.
There is a big crowd of people watching.
The lights shine brightly in our
eyes. We feel proud. It is awesome performing on stage.

    Koru Patterns on PhotoPeach

    Triangle patterns

Today in The Orchard we learned how to make patterns using the straight line tool. Then we had to try and save our own work - in the right place!
These are some of our triangle patterns.

    Reading Eggs

Room 4 has been using Reading Eggs to help them with their reading. There was a free trial first then we applied for and were successful in getting sponsorship from Honda for free access for the class to Reading Eggs until the end of the year. It is wonderful to see students in The Orchard choosing to go on Reading Eggs and practice their reading and spelling skills. Each student has a login and they can use Reading Eggs from home also.

We would love some comments from parents about students using Reading Eggs over the holidays at home.

    Frost

Today there was a frost, it was freezing!
Our cars had ice on the windscreens, we had to scrape it off.
The grass and the leaves were frozen.
Putikitiki had frost in the shady parts. In the sunny parts
    the ice had melted.

    Sugary Drinks

Erin showed us different kinds of drinks.
Some are everyday drinks and some are for special occasions.

We had to work out which drink had the most sugar in it. To find out how much sugar is in one of these drinks come to our class to have a look.

The healthiest drinks for us to have everyday are water and milk.
Water has no sugar in it.
Milk has calcium which is good for our teeth and our bones.

Orange juice, flavoured milk and flavoured water are fine to have one or two times a week.

Special treat drinks are fizzy drinks, sports drinks and cordial because they have a lot of sugar in them.

Energy drinks are just for adults because they have caffeine in them.

    Leaves everywhere!

    A Poem

    Colours of the Seasons
Autumn is brown, orange and red.
Coloured leaves flying above my head.

Winter is grey, black and blue.
My fingers are cold, my toes are too.

Spring is green, yellow and pink.
    Flowers everywhere, daffodils I think.

Summer is yellow green and blue.
Time for a swim, do you want to come too?

We love playing in the leaves.
They are fun to throw up in the air.

    A superhero at our school

A Cashtastic Super Hero came to our class. She had a superhero cape and a superhero mask.

She talked to us about being Cashtastic Super Heroes and spending our money wisely.

We were learning to tell the difference between dollars and cents.
A 10 cent coin is bronze.
The 20 cent coins and the 50 cent coins are silver. The gold coins are the $1 coin and the $2 coin.

Then we saw the dollar notes, $5, $10, $20,
    $50 and $100.

We helped find the lost $10 note.

We learnt about needs and wants.
A need is something we need to live like food, water, shelter and love.
A want is something we would like to have like lollies, a bike, an iPad or takeaways.
