Keira's writing

Keira wrote a story after we ate our tomatoes.  She tried really hard to write a sentence.  Well done Keira.

Delicious Tomatoes from Room 5's Garden!

 First we had to put our tomatoes on the window sill so they would ripen.  We counted them each day to make sure our caterpillar wasn't eating them at night time when we weren't at school.



                                            Miss Lee cut the tomatoes up with a
                                                      knife so that there would be enough for
                                                      all the children to taste.  Some of us didn't
                                                      like tomatoes so instead we got to have
                                                      some cheese to go with our crackers.

                      

We are learning about sharing kindly at school.  We decided we would share our beautiful tasting tomatoes with some of the teachers and children throughout the school.  They really enjoyed it, especially Ms Nagels and Pippa.

We wrote some stories after our snack and then we went gardening again, to pick some more tomatoes and get them ready for ripening on the window sill in Room 5.

Yum, Yum, Yum!

HES Gateway

Room 5 have being busy this week learning about Te Taonga- the Hamilton East School Gateway.  We have learn't about some of the special features of this carving and what it means to Hamilton East School and its people.  We will share our learning with our families so they too will know about Te Taonga.

We like to read, read, read!

We come to school to learn to read and when it is a hot sunny day, we like to read under the trees outside.

We have being talking about the pictures in the stories that we read.  We know that these pictures can help us read some of the words.

Swan plants

We are busy here drawing a picture of the teeny weeny caterpillar that lives on our new swan plant.  Miss Lee said the caterpillar will grow and grow until it is really big.  We have all being learning about the life cycle of a Monarch butterfly.  We know that the caterpillar will turn into a butterfly one day.

Family Maps

We have being talking about maps and all the different information a map shares with us.  We drew a picture of our 'family map' to share a bit about ourselves and who is in our family.  We are going to have a look at a map in our classroom and see where our families come from, because not everyone in Room 5 was born in New Zealand.

We are very clever drawers, and have used lot's of detail and colours in our pictures of our families :)

Hello and welcome to Room 5's blog.  We are so excited about being able to share our learning with you.  We have being talking about what we do at school and how we can take care of ourselves and our new friends.
